The Tea Quest
Lately, my biggest caffeine fix has been PG Tips black tea. Although I have always LOVED, and still love, the Chinese teas, especially black tea, I crave variety. Why black tea? This is because I can create a lot of different flavors with black tea. One of my favorite ways to take black tea is to add whole milk and raw sugar. Another way is to make iced black tea with freshly squeezed lemons, which I usually make with filtered water and raw sugar. Yes, raw sugar is my other addiction ever since I noticed them at Starbucks eons ago.
However, it has been very challenging for me to find a good black tea. I’ve been on a hunt for a long time! Last week, I read a magazine article featuring a top designer who mentioned PG Tips. Since I was still searching for a good black tea, I figured there is nothing to lose.
I am glad I tried it, but now I am hooked! I look forward to mornings with that cup of PG Tips black tea with whole milk and raw sugar. I drink PG Tips at home and drink Ten Ren’s whole leaf jasmine green tea when I am at work. Ten Ren is, to my knowledge, the best Taiwanese tea. I have always loved green tea because of its taste, aroma, moderate amount of caffeine, and health benefits.
Ten Ren gives me the best option for work because it is easy to tote, uses whole leaves, packs a good punch (but not too much since my body does not work well with caffeine despite the fact that it is definitely needed – especially during the working days), and has great aroma as well as lasting taste (one tea bag can continue to produce the same great taste after many refills of hot water).
Although PG Tips black tea is a fun discovery during my quest for great teas, I still want to have it ALL the time!!! However, I can’t have too much caffeine all the time because it makes me jittery and then lethargic. As a result, I have a new challenge to find decaffeinated PG Tips black tea. For some reason I can only find caffeinated PG Tips black tea in supermarkets!
The other recent challenge is locating that great cup of hibiscus tea. My dear sister got me hooked onto this tea, which I first had at Starbucks. However, since that cup, I have not been able to get it at other Starbucks stores. This is really puzzling, given its health benefits as well as great appeal (taste, aroma, and color). I am shocked that it is not sold everywhere!!! I have been doing some research online and came across the Natural Hibiscus Tea Bags by The Republic of Tea. This looks closest to what I have been searching for. I also noted that one of the teas (Hibiscus Spice Roselle Tea), sold by Ten Ren, might also fit the bill.
Let me know if you have any luck in locating decaffeinated PG Tips black tea or The Republic of Tea’s Natural Hibiscus Tea Bags!!!
