Neapolitan Creation
One of my recent favorite snacks is the combination of Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream sandwiches and fresh strawberries. I especially love strawberries at room temperature as opposed to being cold or chilled. I guess this is partially attributed to my need for instant gratification and sensitive teeth. Room temperature strawberries meld much better with cold creamy ice cream. One bite of strawberry followed immediately by a bite of ice cream sandwich. You might ask if the order of bites really make a difference. The answer is yes. Why? This is because the tartness and the aroma of the strawberry truly compliment the creaminess of the ice cream and the bits of the chocolate sandwich. If the bite order is reversed, the result is not as effective.
You might also ask me why only Blue Bunny? This, indeed, is another great question! This started when I spotted the Friendly’s Cookies 'n' Cream ice cream sandwich. This actually triggered my husband’s nostalgia for Hood vanilla ice cream sandwiches. Ah, the wonderful memories of childhood! However, at the time (Winter) when we could not find Hood, we bought the brand that I know well and saw on the spot, Blue Bunny.
After that we tried other brands including Hood and Klondike, we decided that Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream sandwiches are best. This is because the ice cream is creamier, tastier and the chocolate is the perfect combination of softness and chewiness. Most importantly, if you are holding the ice cream sandwich in your hand as you are eating it, the sandwiches do not melt and stick onto your fingers as much. This is especially critical because every little bit that sticks to your fingers is wasted. The actual amount lost might seem inconsequential, but this is not so when a snack is this good!
Another critical element to note is that the ice cream sandwich has to be vanilla. This is important because vanilla does not taint the ultimate culminating taste with strawberries, and chocolate. The taste is as good Neapolitan ice cream but with real fresh strawberries!
There is one more brand of ice cream sandwich that I am longing to try – Good Humor! I am a devout supporter of this brand. Such sweet memories from childhood…
I have not been able to find the Good Humor ice cream sandwiches in the supermarkets that we shop. Perhaps it is time to branch out to other supermarkets. Maybe Good Humor does not make them anymore???
Give me a shout out if you come across them!
