Snack Themes
The Academy Awards and Super Bowl season just passed us. What do these two have in common besides lots of excitement? Snack foods!
There are chicken wings and other finger foods made famous by Super Bowl parties.
On the flip side, there are always snack foods noted in movies. Some are central to the movie itself. Think of all the movies you like or dislike, perhaps the snack foods in them played into your thoughts. Snack foods in film always evoke some kind of emotion. They work into your subconscious. This is why they are barely noticeable.
Look at the following films:
- ‘Woman on Top’ – some serious Spanish cooking and eating associated with it.
- ‘Like Water for Chocolate’ – more chocolate.
- ‘Mystic Pizza’ – there is pizza, and maybe glimpses of other Italian dishes?
- ‘Julie & Julia’ – what a reminder that cooking is complicated and that one often misses the joy of cooking when they were making those delicious snack foods.
- ‘Chocolat’ – yes, the chocolate.
- ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ – you guessed it, more chocolate.
- ‘Mall Cop’ – food court fast food.
- ‘Lady and the Tramp’ – spaghetti and meatballs.
- ‘You’ve Got Mail’ – not sure about those tea sandwiches.
- ‘Big’ – this is how we must have felt when we were little and dining in fancy restaurants.
- ‘Scent of a Woman’ – with the fine dining (or the lack thereof).
- ‘When Harry Met Sally’ – with the diner food, got to love it!
- ‘The Wedding Singer’ – remember those slimy large meatballs?
- ‘The Breakfast Club’ – what was going on with those weird foods in there?
- ‘Meet Joe Black’ – who can forget that precious moment when Brad Pitt got hooked on the peanut butter for the first time?
But film is not the only place where snack foods come into major existence – whether you are aware of them or not.
There are books with food circling throughout them, especially snack foods.
Go on and see how food, snack foods in particular, play into your life via different media.
Most importantly, celebrate those that tickle your fancy ; )
Party on!
